The Essential Brand Checklist

So, you’re ready to launch your brand. We’ve compiled an essential branding checklist to make sure that you have the branding foundations to equip your business for rapid growth and consistency. We’ve split this list up into three sections: Brand Design, Brand Strategy, and Brand Assets.

Brand Strategy

These are your brand’s essence that should inform everything you do. These elements consist of:

Brand Story

A short and engaging story that explains the background of you and your business – something for your audience to connect with. Questions to ask yourself: ‘Why did I start this business?’, ‘How will my business relate to my audience?’.

Brand Mission & Values

A summary of points that outline what your business stands for and believes in. Is your business empowering women? Or perhaps its focus is on sustainability? Questions to ask yourself: ‘What is at the core of my business?’ ‘What are my business’s beliefs?’.

Target Audience

An outline of who your business is targeting. Tip: Create a user profile of your ideal user. Questions to ask yourself: ‘Who will benefit from my business, ‘what do these ideal clients’ lives look like?’ ‘How will my business benefit this user?’.

Tone of Voice

The tone that will carry through all your messaging. Be it social captions, website copy, or ads. Questions to ask yourself: ‘What kind of tone will appeal to my target audience and align with my values?’, ‘Will an informal friendly tone speak to my audience?’ ‘Will a factual and formal tone convey my brand missions better?’.

Keywords

5 – 10 Short words that are associated with your business and target audience. These will be helpful when writing captions, strategizing your SEO, and hashtags. Questions to ask yourself: ‘What words are your audience looking up to find what your business does?’, ‘What is the essence of your business?’.

Brand Design

These are the visual elements of your brand, this consists of:

Logo

Keep your logo simple and make sure to incorporate elements that make your brand recognizable and different for your audience.

Sub mark

A smaller variation of your main logo. Sub marks are very handy to have for situations where the primary logo is not the right fit i.e., smaller logo spaces such as Instagram display photo. These make your logo responsive to changes in size.

Colour Palette

3 -6 Colours that you can use across any of your brand’s collateral. These are especially important for brand recognition on your website and socials.

Typography Suite

This should include around 3 fonts. Bold font for your headers, clear and smaller font for your subheadings, and an easy-to-read paragraph font.

Mood board & Creative direction

A collection of visuals that encompass your brand’s visuals. Mood boards are a great visual aide for you to refer to when you need inspiration for social posts or implementing your brand into any marketing collateral.

Brand Assets

These are additional assets that every professional business should have. These assets include: Website & Domain

Business Email

Email signatures

Business cards

Professional brand photography

Social media handles

With these three categories covered, you should now be ready to launch your brand for success! Download a FREE brand checklist and tick off as you go!
